Rita Davis

Rita Kay Davis was born on February 16, 1943, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Herman and Madge (Garrett) Weringa. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1962, and then worked at the restaurant and grocery store in Lakota before her marriage to Jay Davis on July 18, 1965, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lakota. Rita worked as a cook at Exceptional Opportunities and Burt School for 18 years before moving to McClausand, Iowa, where she was a waitress. Her husband Jay died in April, 2003, and Rita moved back to Algona in June of that same year. Through the years, Rita was a 4-H Leader as well as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed crocheting and playing cards. She was a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Burt and a current member of First Lutheran Church in Algona. Rita became a resident of Good Samaritan Society ~ Algona in June, 2009, and died there on Monday, March 14, 2011, at the age of 68. Survivors include her children, son Rodney Davis and wife Jean of Algona; daughter, Lisa and husband Richard Glass of Waterloo, Iowa and daughter Melissa and husband Joseph Gross of Dubuque, Iowa.
