Mr. Larry L. Reid, 77, of New London, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at his home. Mr. Reid was born December 23, 1933 in rural Mt. Union, the son of Clarence E. and Freda Siekman Reid. He attended Yarmouth and White Cloud School and was a 1952 graduate of New London High School. He married Marlene Wilmeth on June 12, 1955 in Salem. He was a lifelong farmer of land north of New London. He was named Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year in 1969. He served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the New London United Methodist Church and the New London Oddfellows Charity Lodge #56. He was a past member of the New London School Board and the New London Co-op of which he was president. He was a past board member of the New London Country Club. He was a member of the Crooked Creek 2-Cylinder Club, and the Henry County Cattleman's Association. Mr. Reid loved to garden and his success with sweet corn was renowned. He restored John Deere tractors and started with the first tractor his father ever owned. He loved farming and every aspect of it. ved by his wife, Marlene of New London; three daughters, Katherine (Wayne) Brumwell of Yarmouth, , and Kay (Ken) Denning of Mt. Pleasant, Koni (Joe) Lounsbury of New London; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carroll (Pat) Reid of Mt. Union, Richard (Carolyn) Reid of Mt. Pleasant; cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 17 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Jim Roth will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, New London. Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday, March 16 at the Chapel, with family greeting friends from 5 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the New London United Methodist Church and the New London Rescue Unit.
