Patricia Ann Chavez, 91, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at her home after a short illness. No services are planned. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Patricia is survived by six children, JoEllen (David) Ritchie, Fredrick Chavez, Jr, John "Flavious" Chavez, David Chavez, and Randy (Pearl) Chavez and Benita (Ray) Messer; nineteen grandchildren, forty-three great grandchildren, and eight great great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Christine Chavez; a brother, Andy (Pam) Soteco; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, a son Daniel, and a grandson Emrys Thomas Taylor.
Pat was born on August 2, 1926 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Laurence "John" and Caroline Mathew Miller. She married Fredrick Joseph Chavez in Cedar Rapids in May 1946. He died on June 23, 2003. She graduated from Franklin grade school and high school and received an environmental health degree from Kirkwood Community College. Pat was employed by Rockwell from 1972 to 1984.

merous disasters including 9-11 World Trade Center, the bombing of the Murray Building in Oklahoma City, Puerto Rico earthquakes, and numerous floods. For many years Pat served as a member of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team and responded to an untold number of local house fires and disasters. She was often recognized for her Red Cross efforts and was one of the first to receive the KCRG 9 Who Care Awards. Pat also served others through her work with Hospice and on the Foundation 2 suicide hotline. Pat was recognized for her 30-plus years of dedication to Hospice Compassus in 2016 when she received the Heart of Hospice Lifetime Achievement Award from the State of Missouri.
Pat always enjoyed spending time with her family and reading. She will be greatly missed, but her memory will be carried on forever.
