He worked several jobs over the years, including Rapids Chevrolet, window washing, office cleaning, and at Century Engineering for over 25 years until their closure. John could always be found at coffee hour in the mornings, watching his judge shows, western movies, Barrett-Jackson car auctions, or at the bowling alley. Bowling was an important aspect of John's life. He coached bowling for over 25 years, and enjoyed traveling to tournaments across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth Sue; siblings, Clifton, Rusty, David, Charlene, and Glenda; and friend, Smokey.
