Clarissa Ann Carr, 88, of Gardener, Kansas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away February 22, 2018 at the Olathe Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 2 p.m., Thursday, March 1, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Clarissa was born December 6, 1929, in Waterloo to Louis Funk and Clara Varner Funk. She grew up in Waterloo and graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1948. On June 24, 1948 she married her true love, Marcus Carr. They shared 67 devoted years together, and were the parents of Diana and Brian (deceased).
Clarissa was an excellent homemaker known for her delicious homemade treats at Christmas. She enjoyed gardening and grew African violets as a hobby. Clarissa spent her spare time making family scrapbooks which will leave her loved ones many cherished memories. She was also a great lover of music and enjoyed playing the piano; she even collected miniature pianos.
Clarissa's Christian faith and love of God were the focus of her life. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids for over 50 years. ...[more]
served as church pianist for many of those years. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school and will be remembered fondly by her many students. Clarissa had many friends in her church family.
Clarissa is survived by her loving daughter, Diana (Paul) Stevens; grandson, Brian; sister Lulu McKinney; daughter-in- law, Linda Carr; grandsons, Pete (Kelly) Carr, Quinn (Stephanie) Carr; granddaughters, Maggie Carr and Hilary (Dustin) Nekvinda; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus; son, Brian; great-granddaughter, Caroline; sisters, Eleanor Ross and Louise McKinney; and a stillborn brother Franklin Dwight Funk.
We will remember Clarissa for her lifelong devotions to Christ. Her love of family and music, and the kindness she showed to all who know her. We look forward to the day we will be reunited in God's great Kingdom.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Vintage Park in Gardner, KS for the excellent care they gave Clarissa during the 3 ½ years she lived there.
Instead of flowers memorials may be given to the Missions Program at the First Church of the Nazarene.
