Ruth Ann Howe, 70, of rural New London, died at 4:50 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born February 12, 1940 in Cantril, she was the daughter of Benjamin Warren and Elizabeth Ann Slonaker Powell. On July 8, 1963 she married Delbert M. Howe in Burlington. Mrs. Howe was a 1957 Cantril High School graduate, attended business school in Ottumwa for a year and a half and later attended beauty school. She worked at National Research Bureau, Winegard's and was a bus driver for Danville School District. Mrs. Howe was a member of Danville First Baptist Church, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flea markets, traveling and bird watching. She loved the river. Survivors include her husband, Delbert Howe of rural New London; one son, Todd (Julie) Howe of Danville; one daughter, Tracey Howe of Keokuk; eight grandchildren, Samantha Jo Howe, Rachelle Anne Howe, Kody Warren Howe, Trinity Jasmine Howe, James Robert Glick, Tristin Del Howe and Blaike Umbarger; one brother, Ronald (Violet) Powell of Burlington and many nieces and nephews. e family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15th, in Lunning Chapel. The memorial funeral service for Ruth Ann will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 16th, in Danville First Baptist Church. The Rev. Jack Edmisson will officiate. Inurnment will be in Old Stone Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Danville First Baptist Church and Great River Hospice. According to Ruth Ann's wishes, her body will be cremated following the visitation.
