After retiring, Ira's hard work continued as he took on part time jobs with various companies such as Adult Daycare, San Angelo ISD and Executive Courier. Ira's dedication and work ethic also extended into many areas of his life outside of the office. As a member of College Hills Baptist Church, Ira spent many years serving through AWANA's and the Adult Choir. He coached for the San Angelo Soccer Association for 22 years, he was a coach for the Western Little League for 14 years and he served on the board of directors of both organizations. Ira was dedicated to all of his positions, both professional and personal. There was no job that he was prouder of and dedicated to than his job as grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Whether the job required teaching them to ride a bike, coaching their soccer team, playing hide-n-go-seek or introducing them to Texas history at his favorite Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, Ira never missed an opportunity to spend time with, talk about, or love his grandchildren.
