Some of his other favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing, working to restore his 1926 Diamond T truck, collecting coins, watching old westerns, war movies and the Tampa Bay Rays. He also loved to share his more memorable life experiences, like when he was hit by a train in his '35 Pontiac when he was 20 years old, and lived to tell about it; and the close calls he encountered during WW II. He founded the Southwest Florida Area Armed Guard Social Club in Charlotte County. He attended Edgewater United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte. Memories of George will live-on as his story-telling, amiable personality and his infectious laugh could never be mistaken. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in his honor to the American Heart Association. A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 28, 2018 at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home located at, 2405 Harbor Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 at 1:00 PM, followed by a committal service with military honors at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, located at 27200 Jones Loop Rd. Punta Gorda, FL 33982, where he will join his wife Dora.
