from Delhi High School in 1959. She was a worthy opponent on the basketball court and carried her free throw skills into motherhood, where she challenged her children to decide who would wash the dishes (she always won). On June 6, 1959, Belinda married her sweetheart Dwayne, who once took her on a date to see South Pacific and was often late to pick her up because of his chores. Belinda and Dwayne were an inseparable team all of their lives. They settled in Nevada in the late 1970s to raise their five children: Denise, Sandra, Brian, Shawn and Dustin, and to start a business, V&H Construction. They liked to travel, go camping, spend time with their good friends and help with activities at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. In their later years, Belinda and Dwayne loved to babysit and spoil their 13 grandchildren. Belinda had a special spot in her heart for grandkids who loved liver and onions like her. Belinda was a strong, smart and capable woman upon whom you could always count. She loved ice cream, shopping for fabric and beating the grandkids at Yahtzee. She never stopped searching for new Weight Watchers recipes and she was happiest when she brought together her family and close friends for a good meal in her kitchen. Belinda was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Her legacy will live on each time someone curls up under one of the dozens of quilts she lovingly made. Survivors include her husband, Dwayne; five children, Denise (Mark) Swanson of Cambridge, Sandra (Eric) Johnston of Nevada, Brian (Leslie) Hanson of Nevada, Shawn (Keesia) Hanson of Nevada, and Dustin Hanson and fiancée Jordan of Chattanooga, TN; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and another one on the way; a brother, Newell Sutton of Center Point; a sister Sharon (Alvin) Johnson of Anamosa; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother and sister, Gordon and Linda. Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Belinda and her family.
