Alice Rita Lamer, daughter of John and Bertha (Haney) Proksel, was born on November 11, 1929, in rural Papillion, Nebraska. After graduating from South High School, Omaha, Nebraska, in 1948, she worked at Phillips Department Store in South Omaha.
On February 23, 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska, Alice married Everett Willis Lamer. The couple moved to the Lamer family farm located north of Walnut, Iowa, where she was actively involved in farm life, feeding the hired man and work crews who shelled corn and baled hay. Alice and Everett remained on the farm until recently, when they made their home at Peace Haven Senior Living in Walnut.
Alice was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut. When her daughters were young, she was a 4-H leader, and she played cards with two neighborhood card clubs. Alice kept a flower and vegetable garden, and canned her homegrown produce. As a busy farmwife, she cooked, crocheted, sewed children's clothes, and baked and decorated birthday cakes for her grandchildren. Alice R. Lamer died on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She had reached the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 2 days.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John Proksel, Fred Proksel, and Tom Proksel; one sister, Dolly Oldham; and one great-grandson, Ethan Chipman. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Everett Lamer of Walnut, Iowa; two daughters, Cheryl (Rick) Chipman of Harlan, Iowa, and Cathy Lamer of Shelby, Iowa; three grandchildren, Adam (Anne) Chipman of Harlan, Iowa, Jerad (Katrina) Chipman of Sugar Grove, Illinois, and Amanda Chipman of Ames, Iowa; two great-grandsons, Isaac Chipman and Luke Chipman, both of Harlan, Iowa; three foreign exchange grandchildren, George (Rachael) Eyakoh of Addison, Texas, Murat (Begimai) Makeshev of Tokmok, Kyrgyzstan, and Mishi Makono of Tanga, Tanzania; three foreign exchange great-grandchildren, Aden Eyakoh of Addison, Texas, and Asema Makeshev and Ailin Makeshev, both of Tokmok, Kyrgyzstan; and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Walnut, Iowa, with Father Thomas Dooley celebrating. Sondra Dea and the St. Patrick's Choir were the musicians. Casket bearers were John Luth, Jeff Hansen, Terry McMullen, David Proksel, Adam Chipman, Jerad Chipman, and Amanda Chipman. Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Walnut, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Walnut, Iowa.
