Richard "Dick" Lee McCalley, 82, of Waterloo, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital. He was born January 14, 1936, in Racine, Wisconsin, son of Wilbert Lloyd and Florence Mae (Miller) McCalley. He married Mary Lou Heideman on Dec. 22, 1956, in Waterloo. Dick graduated from Waterloo West High school in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June 1954 serving until his honorable discharge. He worked at John Deere as a machine repairman from 1966 until retiring in 1994. Dick was a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Waterloo, a lifetime member of VFW as well as member of Evansdale Amvets and American Legion Post #19. He was a member of UAW local 838 and past skilled trades chairman for nine years. Dick and Lou also spent 25 years wintering in Weslaco, TX. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lou, of Waterloo; a daughter, Debra Lou Knight, Waterloo, a son: Robert (Cindy) McCalley, Waterloo; three grandchildren: Eric (Jessica) Knight of Waterloo, and Nicole (Josh) Kullen, of Reinbeck, and Collin McCalley, of Dubuque; as well as two great-grandchilren: Tyson Knight and Reagan Kullen.
