served his country during the Korean War, receiving his Honorable Discharge in December of 1952.
On April 20, 1968 Leon was united in marriage to Mary Gratias in Mason City, this union would be blessed with two children and nearly 50 years of marriage. Together they made their home near Stacyville where Leon farmed until his retirement in 1990. Following retirement the family moved to Mason City.
In his free time Leon enjoyed tending to his flower and vegetable gardens, and had a love of cooking, he was known for his specialties of goulash and soups.
Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife, Mary, Mason City; children Kevin and Michelle, both of Mason City; and siblings, James Blake, Riceville, Mary M. Blake, Stacyville, Sue Wageman, Austin, Minn., and Catherine (Merlin) Brown, Fontanelle, IA; and many extended relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Annabelle Retterath.
