Lamont E. Herfel

Lamont E. Herfel, of rural Ponca, Nebraska went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2008, while surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 04, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Evangelical Free Church in Ponca, Nebraska with Pastor Dennis Ritchey officiating. Burial was at the Maskell Cemetery in rural Maskell, Nebraska. Lamont was born on November 04, 1934 in Newcastle, Nebraska, the son of Wilmer and Phyllis (Bishop) Herfel. He grew up in the rural Dixon area. On Decemeber 15, 1956 he married Marilyn (Sue) Warnock at the Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple moved to the Lawton,Iowa area, where he raiaed cattle, while working as a mechanic at International Truck. He also drove a truck for Dugan Transport out of Sioux City, Iowa. In 1977 the couple moved to rural Ponca, where he farmed. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and friends and collecting antique tractors. and his wife Amy Boyle of Alexandria, Virginia, Michelle Hawkins of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Mandy and her husband Scott Merritt of Mishwa, Japan, Justin Herfel of Emerson, Nebraska, Jamie and Kayla Herfel of Jackson, Nebraska, Colby and Bryce Crossley of Omaha, Nebraska; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Abby Hawkins; a brother, Larry Herfel of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Vonda and her husband Bob Dempster of Dixon, Nebraska and Bonnie Herfel of Ainsworth, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews. Lamont was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Phyllis Herfel; son-in-law, Roger Boyle; a sister-in-law, Jean Herfel; a niece, LouAnn Herfel and a nephew, Clinton Dempster.
