s he was a bus driver, custodian, and did building maintenance. After retiring, he returned to school part time in food service and drove the lunch wagon, delivering food to the elementary schools for 7 years.
Arvel was skilled at carpentry and mastered many trades. He rarely paid for labor. He was active in the Le Mars Saddle Club and 4-H Horsemanship where he served as a project superintendent. He trained many horses over the years. Arvel enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He loved his Boston Terrier, Buddy. Arvel enjoyed the outdoors including camping, boating, and taking care of his lawn.
Survivors include two children; son, Marty and his wife Michelle, daughter Roxane Anderson and her husband Craig; five grandchildren; Kory Morehead (Zoe Johnson), Lauren (Trevor) Hartwig, Nathan Anderson, Derek Anderson, and Addison Anderson; two great grandchildren, Rowan and Ryker Johnson-Morehead.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ramona, his parents Vernon and Winnie, a sister, Arlene Van Voorst; and a brother, Dwight.
