John "J.W." Wirth, age 76, of Toms River died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
John was born and raised in Newark. He met his wife Lee while they were serving the Catholic Church as Lay Missionaries in Papua New Guinea. They married in Lee's native Australia in 1969. They raised their family in Belleville and Bloomfield and moved to Toms River in 2012. John was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He worked as a carpenter for Local 1342 Bloomfield until retiring in 2008. He was a devoted NY Mets fan and enjoyed watching Navy Football.
John is survived by his wife Lee, his sons, Michael, John (Rosemarie), Mark (Nina), two sisters, Patricia Alessandrini and Marie Masterson, his nieces, Patty, Patricia, Gianna, and Mina and his nephew Anthony as well as a large extended family in Australia.
A Mass will be offered at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 27, 2018. Services will be held under the direction of Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River.
