Dave was ordained to The Sacred Order of Deacons in The Episcopal Church on June 17, 1961, and then to The Sacred Order of Priests on December 23, 1961. Both ordinations were by the late Rt. Rev. John Higgins of the Diocese of Rhode Island. Dave would continue to serve God and His people until his passing. He served at churches in the dioceses of Rhode Island, Albany, The Windward Islands, and Trinidad and Tobago. He was called to St. Paul's Church in Portsmouth, Rhode Island as Deacon-in-Charge in 1961, then from 1962 to 1969 as Priest-in-Charge. At Grace Chapel in Stamford, New York and St. Peter's in Hobart, New York he served as Priest-in-Charge from 1970 until 1984. From 1984 until 1987, he was rector at Christ Church Greenville, New York and Trinity Church in Rensselaerville, New York. In 1987, he was called as Interim Priest at St. Stephen's Church in Delmar, New York; he served until 1988. He was called as Interim Priest from 1989 until 1990 at Our Savior Church in Lebanon, New York. From 1992 until 1996, he was an assisting priest at St. George's Church in St. Georges, Grenada. From 1996 through 1997 he served as Priest-in-Charge at Christ The King and St. Francis at Carriacou Island, Grenada. As a supply priest in 1997, he served St. Matthias (Laventile), St. Columba (Barataria) and Epiphany (Movan), all in Trinidad and Tobago. From 1997 until 1999 he was called as Priest-in-Charge St. James Church (Layou) and St. Mary's (Buccament) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He answered a second call as Priest-in-Charge at Christ The King and St. Francis at Carriacou Island, Grenada from 2000 until 2001. Dave served at All Saints, Fort Lauderdale, in various capacities. He was a member of the choir and served as assisting priest until May of 2016. He instituted the Wednesday Healing Eucharist with Anointing and Laying on of Hands and led the Lay Eucharistic Visitors team. Among his last acts, even while in hospice, was recommending a change to the Home Communion Service to be more in line with how worship is practiced at All Saints. In July of 2016, the All Saints Vestry bestowed upon him the title of "Pastor Emeritus." Dave held multiple administrative and leadership positions at The State University at Albany from 1970 until 1991. In 1991 he took early retirement from academia and fulfilled a dream he had from childhood, by purchasing a sailboat and heading to the Caribbean. He served the various above-named churches during this "early retirement." In 2002 he sold his beloved boat and moved ashore to Ft. Lauderdale. Dave was a loving pastor and priest, an accomplished liturgist, preacher, counselor, mentor, artist and organist. Unknown to many, he was an avid fan of cars, car engines and loved watching car races. Dave is survived by his brother Alexander III and sister-in-law Judy, nephews Alexander Tuxbury Jenkins and Charles Jenkins, and niece Edith Callaghan. Various great nieces and great nephews also survive him. Lastly, he is survived by "Pumpkin" Jenkins, his Pomeranian and "roommate" who loved him unconditionally. Pumpkin visited almost daily after he left independent living. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 333 Tarpon Drive, Ft. Lauderdale. Fr. Dave will be laid to rest in the Churchyard of St. Paul's Church in Portsmouth, Rhode Island at a later date. Contributions in memory of Fr.
