a bachelor's degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA. The family then moved to Virginia so Joel could attend Regent University for his juris doctorate which he received in 1993. In 1995 the family moved back to MN where he later passed the bar exam and started practicing law which he did until April of 2018. Joel encountered many heart related issues in the last year of his life, undergoing two open heart surgeries. He knew his life would be better after this most recent surgery saying he would either have a fuller life here on earth or he would be with Jesus. Joel was surrounded in love by family when he passed away due to complications after surgery on April 22, 2018. Joel loved being with family and friends, taking and receiving photos of loved ones, great conversation, all things computer, and hugs from his grandchildren. He will be most remembered and missed for his enveloping hugs, hearty laugh, spontaneous wit, generous heart and his never ending love. He is survived by his children Heidi (Justin) Long, Allison (Tim) Stallard, Scott (Lindsey) Puffer; his ten grandchildren, Mallory, Josiah, Abigail, Karston, Emily, Greggory, Connor, Jaylin, Danielle and Tori; his sister Peg (Ken) Williams; and former wife, Penny Puffer. Joel was reunited in heaven with his parents Philip and Norma (Mansmith) Puffer, brother Jerry and many other family and friends.
