nt for Research. In his role as Director of the Microscopy Lab, he and his staff collaborated with faculty on as many as 200 research projects annually. He taught six courses each year, collaborated on research grants involving ocular melanoma and cystic fibrosis, and authored or co-authored numerous scientific research articles. Ken represented the University of Iowa and Iowa City throughout the United States and in Japan, China, Venezuela, Brazil, Canada and Europe. He also served as an international lecturer for professional scientific organizations, consulted on microscopy resources at U.S. and foreign universities, and contributed to the development of instrumentation for companies such as DuPont, Emitech, and Hitachi. Ken served two terms as President of the University Staff Council and was a founding member of committees which established University of Iowa's Women in Science and Engineering program and the Iowa Technology Transfer Council. Ken was the recipient of a University of Iowa Excellence Award and a Reagents' Award for Outstanding Contributions to the University and the State of Iowa. After 32 years of service to the University of Iowa, Ken retired in 2010. Ken was an advocate and a mentor for young people. Throughout his long career, Ken enthusiastically introduced students, from kindergarten through graduate school, to the wonder of science. In his retirement, Ken continued to befriend and encourage the young people in his life. In addition to his loving family and his contributions to the expansion of scientific knowledge, Kenneth Moore has left a legacy of those whose lives are richer for having known him.
