marriage in Sept 2017. Their son Scott Bangert was born in 1979, followed by Mary in 1982 and Robyn in 1992.
Randy was named city editor of the Tribune in 1982, a position in which he mentored and helped mold the careers of countless young journalists. In 2006 he was named editor of the Tribune, furthering a tradition of excellence. Throughout his tenure, he was incredibly involved in the Greeley Community - from reading to elementary students to volunteering through Rotary and several other community organizations.
He was honored as Newspaper Person of the Year for the Colorado Press Association in 2016 and was inducted into the second class of the Colorado Press Association Hall of Fame in April. Unable to attend because of his illness he celebrated with family and friends at his home while his son, daughter and granddaughter attended the ceremony and accepted his award.
Randy was a devoted loving husband, father and grandfather, who never missed a game or tennis match or phone call, but he still always put out a newspaper.
Randy was an avid LA Dodgers fan, a love he acquired from his wife in 1975. In 1979 he attended his first LA Dodgers game and remained a lifelong fan, meeting Tommy Lasorda and even having Tommy send him a video message urging him to remain strong. He remained a die-hard fan, bleeding blue 'til the end, when the Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-3 just hours after his passing. He loved spending time on the golf course and at the family cabin he and his dad built in Leadville, CO. Fly fishing was a passion.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jan, of Eaton, his son, Scott Bangert of Greeley, granddaughter Hailey of Greeley, daughters Mary Bangert of Colorado Springs, and Robyn Bangert of Ft. Collins. Future sons-in-law Johnathan Duncan and Stuart Smith. His mother Evelyn Bangert of Arizona, sister Vicki (Ron) Knutsen of Oregon and Linda (David) Sawyer of Arizona. Numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Vernon Bangert and father-in-law Stan Beson.
