with the help of the GI Bill. After he got his masters, he received a scholarship and went on to get his Ph.D. in psychology at Ole Miss. He taught at Ole Miss briefly and at Mississippi University for Women for a couple of years. Eventually, he wound up at the University of Charleston (S.C.), where he taught for 21 years. His own struggles motivated him to give scholarships to help other needy students, and in the fall of 1998 the first four-year Dr. James V. Robinson, Jr. Scholarship was awarded at USM, and because it was funded from an endowment, has been awarded in perpetuity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Vayden Robinson and Lessye McDaniel Robinson and one brother, Joe Dale Robinson.
Survivors include his loving wife of eleven years; one brother, Allan B. Robinson (Eleanor) of Ellisville; one aunt, Kathleen Arrington who is 96 years of age; and numerous nieces and nephews.
