Kathy Jones

Kathy Jones passed away on May 29, 2018 from metastatic colon cancer, while at home with her family. She lived with and fought cancer for 4 ½ years. Kathy was born on August 15, 1951 in Osage, Iowa. She graduated from Osage High School in 1969 and received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Iowa in 1973. Kathy taught in Jesup, Iowa and in Illinois before arriving in Rochester, Minnesota where she taught Emotional and Behavioral Disorder classes for 30 years. In July of 1983, Kathy married Dwight Jones, and the two began to raise their family. Kathy was most proud of her two children, Matthew and Hannah. Together her family established and maintained many traditions. One of her favorites was campouts with immediate and extended family. Beyond her family, Kathy valued her relationships with fellow teachers, quilters and church friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Rachel Holcomb, and a nephew, John Kudron. She is survived by her husband, Dwight, their son, Matthew (Emma) and their daughter, Hannah. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 2, at First Presbyterian Church, 512 3rd Street SW, Rochester, MN 55902. Kathy requests casual dress with "no suits or ties" worn at the service. In lieu of flowers, Kathy requests donations to Quilts of Valor Foundation, First Presbyterian Church, or a favorite charity.
