Annaliese Gertrud Seelig Munson, of Old Forge, NY, passed away on May 11, 2018 at the age of 98.
Born October 17, 1919 in Kitzingen, Germany to John and Anna Seelig, Annaliese lived a full and exciting life. She left Germany in 1923 with her parents and two brothers. As a young child, she lived in the jungles outside Santos, Brazil for five years, before arriving in America in 1928 and settling in Manhattan and later moving to Westchester County. Annaliese graduated from East Irvington High School and Mount Vernon School of Nursing in 1944. She took graduate courses at NYU and Westchester Community College.
Annaliese was a lifelong patriot. After nursing school, she joined the United States Army and trained at Fort Bragg. She was commissioned as a 1st. Lt. and served in Saipan during the Second World War. Upon returning home, she worked as an ER Nurse at White Plains Hospital and for many years as a Hospital Administration Supervisory Nurse at New York Cornell Medical Center in White Plains.

se and Willis (Bill) G. Munson united in marriage 1951 and were happily married for 54 years before his passing in 2006. Together they raised their four children - Lynn, Charles, Lori and Debbie - in Ardsley, NY. Both Annaliese and Bill were devout Christians who cared deeply for their communities and were always quick to help the less fortunate. They were congregants of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Elmsford NY, Dobbs Ferry Lutheran Church and St. John's Lutheran Church, Manorton, NY, and Nicolls Memorial Church in Old Forge, NY.
With a strong sense of duty to her fellow veterans, Annaliese was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 52 in Scarsdale and served as the post's first female Commander two years in a row. She also volunteered at the Montrose VA Hospital for over 1,000 hours, caring for patients as she did during the war.
In her retirement, Annaliese spent much of her leisure time painting landscapes and portraits of her family. She quickly became an accomplished artist, participating in art shows and was commissioned to paint the logo for the Southern Columbia County Lutheran Churches, which she completed at the age of 90. As time passed, she was becoming blind and deaf but stayed active, sharp witted and entertained by studying Spanish and German.
She is survived by her children Lynn and Bill Olear of Surprise, AZ, Charles G. Munson of Ardsley, NY, Lori Mae and Mark H Eddy of Old Forge, NY and Debora S. Munson of Albany, NY; and daughter-in-law, Noreen S. Munson of Va. At 98 she had many adventures and stories which she loved to share, but her fondest memories were of time spent with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
