Richard C. Ryder, age 79, of the Holiday City section of Berkeley Township died on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Newark, he lived in Bloomfield for many years before moving to Toms River in 2000.
Mr. Ryder was an auto mechanic, and owned Richie's Auto Repair, Bloomfield for many years. He had a passion for auto racing, and was a dirt track and modified driver for many years at Wall Stadium and Raceway Park. A fan of the NY Yankees, he was a longtime NASCAR fan, and was a supporter of Bobby Allison and later Dale Earnhardt Sr.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jean, in 2014, by his son, Robert in 2006, and by his brother, Elwood in 1984. He is survived by his children, James of Indiana, Richard Jr. and his wife Diane of Wharton and David and his wife Martina of Long Island, NY; two grandchildren, Jenna and Jacob; and a brother, Jessie Ryder and his wife Joan of Toms River.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 pm at Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. Cremation will be private.
