arned his Master of Science in Education degree from Drake University. Upon his retirement, the Cleatie Devine Social Studies Award has been presented annually by Stilwell Jr. High School to the most deserving social studies students. Pat was a member of the Iowa State and National Education Associations. Pat was a staunch supporter of the Des Moines Y.M.C.A. Camp at Boone, Iowa. He was involved in many other youth activities including West Des Moines Y.M.C.A Youth Clubs, Saturday Night at the Y for Stilwell Jr. High School students, Y Indian Guides with son Mike, Boy Scouts of America with son Tim, Day Camp Director for the West Des Moines Y.M.C.A, and Day Camp Director for the Des Moines Easter Seal Center. Pat was known for his dramatic interpretation in full make-up and costume of the Robert W. Service poem, "The Cremation of Sam McGee," carrying on the tradition of his father, Cleatie, Sr., and performed at the Des Moines Y.M.C.A. Camp, Stilwell Jr. High School, and, in retirement, at Norwalk Jr. High School. In retirement, Pat was a member and song leader of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, and through his membership was a volunteer at Findley School in Des Moines for the Speak Up Program and the Chess Club. Pat was a 77-year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines where he was a Sunday school teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, and was an ordained Elder who served on the church's Session. He was also a member of: Acanthus Masonic Lodge, where he served as De Molay Dad of Alverson Chapter; Baldwin Patterson V.F.W. Post; and the Polk County Pioneer Club. Pat was preceded in death by his parents Cleatie H., Sr., and Ivy Jane; his sister and brother-in-law Geneva and W. Gene Carman; and his nephew Jeff Carman. He was also preceded in death by Katy's parents, Rolland and Ruth Buxton; his brother-in-law Garland Buxton; and his beloved granddaughter Lauren Devine. Those cherishing his memory are Katy, Mike, and Tim; David Anderson; niece and husband Jodi and Dennis Kortsha; and great nephew Cameron Snyder. Pat and Katy sold their Beaverdale home and moved to Scottish Rite Park in February 2006. Katy, Mike, and Tim wish to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Scottish Rite Park Health Care Center for the professional and compassionate care Pat received while living with Alzheimer's Disease the last two years of his life. A Service of the Celebration of the Life of Cleatie Devine will be held at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in the Penthouse of Scottish Rite Park, 2909 Woodland Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312.
