id tasted "like candy" and cooking his famous green chili with homegrown peppers and (inevitably too many) jalapenos.
Dean loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, China, the U.S.S.R., and dozens of European countries. He loved nothing more than a day of skiing or a night of shooting hoops in the driveway. A lifelong athlete, he often enthusiastically remembered playing on the Degenerates recreational softball team. Dogs, cats, and kids all gravitated toward Dean. The Giauque household always held a menagerie of pets that adored him and were adored by him. An avid sports fan, Dean took watching Colorado teams seriously. He unabashedly recognized ice cream, chocolate, potatoes, and bread as separate food groups, and made sure to have each daily. Funny and ornery, Dean was a man of few words; he let his actions (mixed with a few proud chuckles) speak for themselves.
Dean loved his family unconditionally. He never let anything stop him - even when he faced seemingly insurmountable odds - from being the very best dad and husband he could possibly be. He stood fiercely by his wife and kids, and made sure they never doubted that he loved them and was proud of them.
Dean passed on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, surrounded by the love of family members and friends. He is survived by his wife, Cyndy, children: Brian, Heather and family, and Lanna and husband Alex, and by his beloved dog Lyla (the only dog he ever allowed on the furniture), as well as sisters Charlene, Lois (and Bill), Jolene, and brother Dale. He is also survived by many cousins, including special cousins Paul and Julia, Linda, Trish, Dennis, and Bing. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Don.
