Eugene Calvin Kellogg, 78, of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Cottage Grove Place with family at his side. A celebration of Eugene's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Teahen Funeral Home.
Gene is survived by his wife, Nancy; his four children, Elaine (Stephen) Kolaczkowski of Beverly, MA, Edward (Lena) Kellogg of Wrightwood, CA, Pamela Kellogg of Crystal, MN and Patrick (Michelle) Kellogg of Heber City, UT; nine grandchildren; and his sister Joyce (Don) Baker of Ypsilanti, MI.
Gene was born on January 14, 1940 in Sioux City, the son of Ernest and Erma (Blangy) Kellogg. He was a 1958 graduate of Heelan High School, Sioux City, and a graduate of Western Iowa Tech Community College and Kirkwood Community College. He married Nancy Lynne O'Connor on December 27, 1962 in Sioux City. After working as a communications operator in the Navy, Gene was employed in 1963 by Square D as an Electrical Engineer and worked there until his retirement in 2003. a former Commander of the Iowa Wing. He was also an active member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He had just recently been honored by the State of Iowa General Assembly for his nearly 50 years of voluntary services to Iowa in emergency services.
Gene was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed photography and chronicled the lives of his family, his travels, and many community events throughout the years, such as taking aerial pictures of the Cedar Rapids flood in 2008. He continued his passion for radio communications that began in the Navy and helped to provide communications assistance for many events, including Floatzilla in the Quad Cities.
