Alice Marie Smith, 93, of Ridgeview Assisted Living, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, with her family by her side. Funeral Mass:10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Jude Catholic Church by Rev. Mark Murphy. Burial: Sts. Patrick & Paul Cemetery, rural Watkins. A Vigil Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m., and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Alice is survived by her children Carolyn (Roger) Silhanek of Belle Plaine, Kenneth (Sandra) Smith of rural Watkins, Ronald Smith and David Smith of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Glenn (Letha) of Blairstown and Richard (Kim) of Newhall; sisters in law, Norma Sykora of AZ, Kathy Etscheidt of Newhall and Theresa Smith of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George on July 28, 2017; daughter-in-law Jessica Smith; siblings, Robert Etscheidt and William Etscheidt; and sister in law Mary Ann (William) Etscheidt.

ghter of John and Elsie Brecht Etscheidt. She attended country school and graduated from Norway High School in 1942. In her early years she worked at Naxcera Bakery in Cedar Rapids. On September 24, 1946, Alice married the love of her life, George Henry Smith, Jr. in Watkins. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Alice was a wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma who was the happiest in her home tending to her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and sewing was her passion for many years. Alice was much loved and will be greatly missed. She truly was part of the greatest generation.
