President of the Catholic Daughters of America. Alberta also loved to play bridge and was good at it! She played duplicate bridge and belonged to many bridge clubs. We would like to thank the woman of her last bridge club for the kindness and patience they extended toward her as she became ill. Alberta also loved and was a talented golfer. In fact she celebrated her first hole in one on her 70th birthday.
These passions all drove Alberta, but her passion and dedication to the Catholic Church surpassed them all. She was a loyal parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker for over 50 years. She lived the teachings of the church in her everyday life by giving back to the community and volunteering thousands of hours in the community. She loved Dubuque! While Virginia was home to the rest of her family and held a special place in her heart, she proudly adopted Dubuque and loved telling people about the city, including how to spell it.
Most of all Alberta Roth was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her most precious possession, and she was proud of each one of them for their own unique gifts. Alberta and Art had three children, Doris (Dan) Keyes of Madison, WI; Robert (Terri) Roth of Brentwood, TN; and was preceded in death by her youngest son Jerry (Beverly) Roth of Jefferson, SD. She is further survived by her grandchildren; Jeremy Roth, Kellye (Matt) Golden, Susan (Aaron) Shotland, Nicole (Chris) Roepe, Taylor (Meredith) Roth, Ali Roth and Logan Roth. Additionally, her great grandchildren who brought her so many smiles in her final years; Grace, Lucas, Emerson, Jacob, Danny and Natalie.
Of Alberta's nine siblings, Paul Burlage and Rita Nichols are still living in Virginia, and her brother-in-law Don Roth is in Arizona. Alberta also has many nieces and nephews, but we as a family want to especially thank her niece Dianne Blaser for extending her time, kindness, and assistance to Alberta during her illness when she was unable to have the independence she loved most of her life. We would also like to thank the staff at Manor Care, especially her nurse Luann and Dr. Andrea Ries, whose first patient was Alberta.
Our mother was a sweet, generous and wonderful person and will be immensely missed. We find great peace in knowing that she will be reunited with her beloved Art and son Jerry and many other family members in Heaven, including her parents and siblings Alvera, Donald, Charles, Doris, Edwin, and Gerald.
