Gilman Palmer Budar, 79, of Dubuque, formerly of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital. Private family services will be held. Hoffmann-Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service 3860 Asbury Rd is assisting the family with local arrangements.

Gilman was a self-employed real-estate developer and interior designer, and founded Budar Advertising with his sister Valjeanne.
He was a yachtsman who excelled at sailing and racing, and was an active member of Waikiki Yacht Club and Hawaii Yacht Club. He was a longtime member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and was a winning race car driver. He consulted for and appeared in an episode of Hawaii 5-0 thanks to his racing experience.
He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage, especially in doubles with his wife Emily. Gilman was an excellent cook and won the Hawai'i State Chili Championship Cookoff. He collected anything frogs. Gilman served his country in the US Army National Guard for 6 years and served 6 months active duty. He was active in fundraising for organizations such as 'Ahahui Koa Ānuenue (Hawaii Athletics) and the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Gilman was very proud of his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are his children: Dorothy "Lee" (Jon) Budar-Danoff, of Columbia, MD, Valerie "Lacie" (Tom) Peckosh, of Dubuque, IA, Lillian (Gary) Budar-Krukoski, of Kingman, AZ, and Ramona "Jamie" (Kevin) Sergent, of Honolulu, HI; nine grandchildren, Noelani, Gilman, and Daniel Budar-Danoff, Emily, Carolyn, Jacquelyn, and T.J. Peckosh, and Nani and Kenzie Sergent; and a sister, Bonnie Branch, of Florence, MA. He is also survived by his cherished feline companion "Pussy Kat."
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard (Eve) Budar Jr, two sisters, Valjeanne and Dorothy, and a brother-in-law, Chuck Branch.
