Philip Harrison Lochner, 97, died early in the morning July 2nd at Hawkeye Care Center, Dubuque, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at Resurrection Catholic Church. Fr. Mark Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. There will not be a visitation, but friends may greet the family following the service at the church.
Philip was born in Dubuque on May 23, 1921 to Harry J. and Frances (Schaefer) Lochner. He attended St. Mary's School and Columbia Academy and served in World War II, first with the Army's 94th division and later with the 9th United States Army Air Force Band in Paris, France. As a youngster he played with the Reiner Band, the Dubuque Community Band and in the ROTC band at Columbia Academy. Philip also was a fine tennis player and loved cars, playing poker, boating on the Mississippi and enjoying steak frys in Eagle Point Park with friends. nc. with his father and his younger brother, Harry. Philip was President until he retired in 1994. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Club of Galena, the American Legion, the Electrical Apparatus Service Association, Midwestern Chapter and Resurrection Catholic Church.
He married Dorothy O'Leary Lochner, the love of his life, August 15, 1944 in Waycross, Georgia and they enjoyed 62 1/2 years together before Dorothy's passing in January 2007. Though he was sometimes lost after losing Dorothy, he lived alone and managed all aspects of daily living on his own including driving until April this year. He was a neat, orderly man and people lined up to purchase his used cars when he traded them in every year or two as they were meticulous and well maintained.
Surviving are a son, Lawrence P. (Jeanine) Lochner of Peosta, IA; three grandsons, Thomas H. (Jill) Lochner of Saratoga Springs, NY; Daniel J. Lochner of New York City, NY and David O. Lochner of Minneapolis, MN; daughter in law, Barbara Lochner; a step grandson, Jeff Rawson of Wellesley, MA; a step granddaughter, Sandra (Tony) Stork of Altoona, IA; two great granddaughters, Ayden O'Leary Lochner and Ava Marie Lochner; three great grandsons, Blake, Gavin and Logan Lochner; two brothers in law, Harrison F. Lochner of Dubuque and William D. O'Leary of St. Augustine, FL, a sister in law, Jean McKay of Palm City, FL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his son, Donald H. Lochner of Dubuque and his sister Ardith Donovan of Dubuque.
