there, they moved to Garner and later to Mason City. In 2009, they moved to Cornerstone Assisted Living until Jerry's health declined, and he spent the remaining four and a half years at Good Shepherd.
Jerry loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had the greatest smile for everyone that he met and always said, hi. He loved farming, and his brother-in-law, Merlyn, kept him up to date on crops while the two also discussed which tractor was better. Jerry also enjoyed going to McDonald's when he could and made many friends along the way. He made many friendships and good memories at Good Shepherd and loved the guys and gals who cared for him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Marieta; daughters, Laurene (Bryan) Arends, Lavonne (Merle) Hines; brothers-in-law, Merlyn Butcher and Lester Dhondt; grandchildren, Andy (Melissa) Arends, Nathan (Stacy) Hines, Derek (Amy) Arends, Stephanie (Paul) Marlin, and Michele (Mark) Schulte; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Arends, Ava Hines, Payton Arends, Mya Marlin, Andrew Hines, Ella Marlin, Adelaide Schulte, Zion Hines, Oliver Schulte, and a baby Schulte due in November.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
