Joan M. Griggs

Former Des Moines resident Joan Davis Griggs passed away July 10, 2018 at the Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Florida of cancer. Joan was born in Des Moines on September 27, 1930 to John and Helen Davis. She was educated in Des Moines, and married John L. Griggs in July of 1947. They continued to make their home in Des Moines from 1952-1972. She traveled with her husband Jack at all Navy duty stations, and returned to Des Moines, where they settled down to be near family. In 1997, they retired to Cape Coral, Florida. Joan was a 53 year member of the Desert Holly Chapter #547 order of the Eastern Star-Home Lodge in Ridgecrest, California. She was also a devoted home maker and had many friends from many different places from all her travels. Surviving family members include her sister, Dixie Riley, nieces, Cindy Dennison and Jodi Nielson as well as nephews Mark and John Riley. She will also be missed by many great nieces and nephews as well as brother in law, Richard Griggs (Francis), sister in law, Marianne Winters, nieces, Nancy Grady and Lynn Gainty, and nephews, Richard Griggs, Jr., Philip Griggs and Brett Griggs.
