Rev. Paul Hughes, 92, of New London, formerly of Salem and Kansas City, passed away July 18, 2018 at Great River Hospice, West Burlington. He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Kansas City to Edward Paul and Lucille King Hughes. He married Frances Humphrey Nov. 19, 1954. They had 3 children; Tim Hughes of McNeal, AZ, Becky Ryan of Kansas City and Chris McCurdy of Tulsa, OK. Frances preceded him in death in 2000. In 2010 he married Phyllis Breuer of New London. They attended Salem Congregational Church. Rev. Hughes pastored for more than 55 years in Kansas City; Lincoln, KS; Vona, CO; Humansville, MO; Salem, IA (1964-68) and Hartwick, IA. He was involved in several ministries including 4 years in New Tribes Mission and Aviation Department; Youth for Christ and KC City Union Mission. Survivors include his wife, his three children, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; step-children, Alan (Darcella) Breuer of Palmyra, MO, Linda (Lanny) Rowe and Luan (Sid) Schmidt of New London, and Bruce (Shari) Breuer of Mt. th by siblings Earl Lee Hughes and Olive E. Hughes. Visitation will begin at noon July 27, at Elliott Chapel, New London, with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at Olivet Baptist Church in Westwood, Kansas at 11:00 on July 30th with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House, West Burlington; and Ethnos360 Aviation Brazil Helicopter Project, which was very near and dear to Paul.
