of a party and bringing sunshine to every gathering she attended with her big smile and infectious laughter. She thrived on spending time with her family, hosting fun dinners and celebrations, tailgating at Iowa State Football games, eating warm delicious cinnamon rolls with extra butter, and enjoying delicious martinis and Chardonnay with good friends. Everyone in her life remembers her for her joyful presence, happy demeanor and special gift of humor. Her ability to see and bring out the best in people allowed her to create an extended family that included her broad faith community, singing group, and lifelong friends. In her later years, she created special bonds with all those who surrounded her at both Deerfield and Villa St. Benedict, including the Benedictine Sisters and network of compassionate caregivers whose love and support were so meaningful in her final days. She loved spending time with her children and their families, including sons, Dennis (Lucy) Van Liew, Jr. of Madison, CT and Frederick Van Liew of Denver, CO; daughters, Caroline (Robert) Hesse of Cincinnati, OH and Kristina (John) Van Liew Boytim of Naperville, IL. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Mollie, Kellie, Bradford, Cameron, Elizabeth and Rachel; and survived by brother, Daniel Murphy and his wife, Marily; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Mark Murphy.
