Martha Lynn Smith, 65, of Burlington, formerly of Louisiana, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Great River Hospice House.
Born on March 7, 1953 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Roy Charles and Betty Elaine (Hopewell) Ertz.
Martha graduated from Burlington High School and received her teaching degree from Southern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. From 1980-87 she served in the United States Navy as a computer programmer, stationed in Japan for three of those years. She later resided in Louisiana and worked for the water department in the administrative office.
Martha was of the Catholic faith. Her hobbies included fishing and reading. She always enjoyed a good shrimp boil and visiting Lake Pontchartrain. She loved riding around the countryside looking at the Mississippi River, and had a special interest in helping children.
Survivors include her son, Beau (Rose) Barker, active military command SGT Major, training at Fort Bliss, TX; grandson, Nolan; siblings, Roy T. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Martha Lynn Smith has deeded her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. There will be no services at this time.
