John Charles Moeller, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Living Center West. Services: 11 a.m., Monday at Christ Episcopal Church by the Rev. Hal Hayek. Inurnment: Christ Episcopal Church. Friends may visit with the family Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., at Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Services and Monday after 10 a.m., at the church. A Masonic Service will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
John is survived by his wife Dianne; three daughters, Lori (Mark) Hixson and Ann Starry both of Cedar Rapids and Julie (Jim) Ottaway of Marion; grandchildren, Jordan (Chris) Hanson, Harrison Hixson of Cedar Rapids, Ashley Starry of St. Louis, Brian Hixson and Kelly Hixson of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren Claire Hanson and Liam Hixson; a sister Sue Ann Decker of Davenport, and many nieces and nephews.
John was born August 15, 1936 in Moline, IL the son of John and Pauline Spinsby Moeller. He was a graduate of Perry High School, a 1965 graduate of University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, and a 1972 graduate of the University of Iowa with Master Degree of Secondary Education Adminis...[more]
tion. He married Dianne Long on June 9, 1957 in Durant. John retired in 1982 from the Linn Mar School District where he led the senior high school trade and industry program for 12 years. He had previously taught industrial arts at both Wilson and Kennedy high schools in Cedar Rapids. He was an agent for Kansas City Life insurance company for 32 years, demonstrated tools in Sears department stores for 20 years, and also enjoyed working as a driver for the Cedar Rapids Community School District. He finally retired in 2012. John was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge Marion #6, El Kahir Shrine and the Elks Club.
John was well known for his mischievous sense of humor with a capital M. He enjoyed driving a dune buggy in parades and other Shrine activities and dining and dancing at the Elks Club. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
