Harold Fowler

Long time Centerville Mayor Harold Fowler, age 89 of Centerville died Thursday morning April 22, 2004 at Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center. Harold was born in Mendota, MO., on December 22, 1914 the son of Benjamin and Edna (Walker) Fowler. He was united in marriage to Margaret Matheson in Centerville and she preceded him in death. In his early years he was a coalminer and worked at Ralston Purina. But he is fondly remembered as Centerville's Mayor for fourteen years. He was an active member of the Church of Christ and served on the Community Betterment Boards at its inception. After his retirement he enjoyed visiting friends in the nursing homes. He is survived by 3 children, Harold Eugene Fowler, Joan Kay Wagner of Centerville and Jerry Lee Fowler of Oskaloosa, 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and several step great grandchildren, two sisters Bernice Leek of Centerville and Marge Scott of Ottumwa, 2 brothers Ronald Fowler of Ottumwa and Wayne Fowler of California.
