. Sister Jean also served as vocation coordinator. In 1982 she went to Malawi, East Africa to teach at Our Lady of Wisdom Commercial School. Five years later, Sister Jean returned to Philadelphia and continued teaching and doing secretarial work, eventually starting a new mission at Philadelphia's Immaculate Heart of Mary Center in 1991. For nearly 20 years she tutored students in English as a Second Language as well reading and math. After retiring from mission, Sister Jean continued to be a healing presence, using her skills with the English language. A particularly friendly person, she offered lessons to Sisters working to improve their English whenever needed, and she also helped out in her Community by performing miscellaneous tasks such as filing and recording notes during meetings. Several years ago, Sister Jean shared, "... [mission] is living in the presence of God, discovering the revelation He has for me in each new place, in the people and happenings in my life, and hopefully being some little expression of God's presence in our world as I try to be of service to others". Relatives and friends are invited to Sister's Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Medical Mission Sisters Chapel, 8400 Pine Road, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
