and autism. Stephenie later worked for Systems Unlimited as a house supervisor in a group home.
In 2017 Stephenie moved to New Orleans for a teaching job working with children with special needs. She loved the community in New Orleans and really thrived there. When she first arrived there, she worked at Success Academy in both Jr. High School and then elementary. Most recently she worked for Abramson Sci Academy teaching math and science to high school students with special needs; she was an advisor for a group of 14 high school girls who adored her; she gave them a safe place to talk about anything.
Stephenie was very talented artistically; she played the Baritone Saxophone in the marching band, she played in the pep band, and she was in choir and acapella choir. She enjoyed painting and drawing. She was a very talented writer who wrote poems and short stories; she was accepted into the Iowa's Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa. She was a person who didn't live her life by what everyone else thought, she marched to her own beat. She was little dramatic at time and used those natural talents in the drama club in high school. Stephenie loved animals; her dog Xiva and two cats Vulcan and Fred will miss her.
She was a beautiful person who was caring, compassionate and giving above all things she loved time spent with her family, friends and students. She wanted people to be kind and compassionate to one another and not see each other as different from each other.
Stephenie will be dearly missed by her loving parents: Sherry and Stephen Orte of Clinton; paternal grandfather: Doug Orte of Clinton; two aunts: Stasia (Josh) Cullinan of Clinton and Dawn (Jamie) Wolfe of Mayakka, Florida; two uncles: Kurt (Margaret Phillips) Charnoski of Clinton and Robert (Autumn) VenHuizen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three great aunts: Mary Ries of Clinton, Donna Dawson of Camanche and Barb (Tom) Montgomery of Peoria, Illinois; cousin and best friend: Andrew Montgomery of Rockford, Illinois and his parents who were like second parents to her, Michael and Paula Montgomery of Davis Junction, Illinois; and many more cousins whom she loved and will miss her.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great grandmother Generose Moore whom she was named after, maternal grandparents: LaLonnie and Ralph VenHuizen and paternal grandmother Sandy Orte.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family who will be establishing a scholarship in her name for special needs children and future special needs educators.
