Ron was born January 11, 1925 in White Bear Lake, MN, the son of Adolph and Lila (Lapham) Amundson. He married Joan Skogstad on August 4th, 1962 in Eleva, Wisconsin. Ron was a family man; his wife and children and their lives were his priority. Earlier this year Ron and Joan celebrated fifty-six years of marriage. With the love, care, and support of Joan he become the man that so many people loved and cherished.
He graduated from high school in Excelsior,...[more]
elsior, MN where he excelled in athletics winning multiple state championships in track and field while being a four-sport varsity athlete.
In 1943 he joined the armed forces and was assigned to the Thirteenth Airborne Division 513 Parachute Infantry - where he completed 13 jumps during World War II.
After returning from the service he worked at Amundson Boat Works in White Bear Lake, MN, a family business that built the sailing ships that drove commerce on the "Great Lakes" of the upper Midwest.
Following his service, he became a general contractor in the housing industry in Minnesota.
Ron was a salesman for multiple companies and celebrated a 50 plus year career. He had an innate ability to listen and care for his customers as friends and clients first-not just customers.
Ron was an avid sports fan his entire life. An accomplished athlete in his youth he regularly shot his age in golf into his 80's. He could break 100 with only an 8 iron until his last round.
His love of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings was unbending. He leaves us with being one of the few that have seen an Iowa Rose Bowl win for Iowa, a Chicago Cubs World Series win and multiple Minnesota Viking's Super Bowl appearances.
He was a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association for 19 years and a driver for Duride, providing help to those in need for many years for people in his hometown Dubuque, IA.
Ronald "Ron" Amundson was a great person, father, and friend and he will be missed by his family, friends and all the people he encountered throughout his life.
