John F. Gilroy

John F. Gilroy 84, passed away September 17, 2018 at his home in Englewood, FL after a brief illness. John was born on January 1, 1934 in Attleboro, MA. He was the beloved son of the late Thomas H. Gilroy and Rose (Hetherington) Gilroy. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Thomas and Robert Gilroy. Most in his close circle of friends and family knew him as "Jack". Jack was a graduate of Coyle High School in Attleboro, MA and proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime resident of North Attleboro, MA and was a loyal employee of North Attleboro Gas Co. for 30 years before retiring to Cape Cod in 1991. He was the loving husband of Diane (Gay) Gilroy and just celebrated 31 years of marriage on August 3rd. Jack and Diane spent the last 14 years of their retirement combing the beaches of Florida together and spending time with family and friends. Their life together was truly blessed. Jack was an avid golfer in his younger years and spent many a day out on the courses with his golf buddies. He loved to read and always had a good book close by. eals. His specialty was eggplant parmesan and homemade meatballs which would often be on the menu for one of his favorite past times, watching the New England Patriots. In addition to his wife Diane, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and David Cheney of Whitehall, NY and his grandson Kevin Berry of Brattleboro, VT. He also leaves a step daughter, Renee Mothershed and her husband Bobby of Denton, NC, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Donna Gilroy of Yorktown, VA. Jack was also loved by many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Saint Francis of Assisi Church 5265 Placida Road Grove City, FL 34224. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack's memory to the American Cancer Society.
