asking him to the company's mid-winter party. Janet and Alan were married at St. Katherine of Siena church on Nov. 23, 1968. They settled in Ambler in 1972 and together were life-long residents of the borough. Over the years, Janet was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Ambler. She gave her time freely in support of the church and the former Ambler Catholic Elementary School, where her daughters were students. She was an accomplished seamstress who found pleasure in making items to donate to church fundraisers or other causes, as well as items for her family such as clothing, curtains, Christmas ornaments and quilts. Janet also tirelessly volunteered many hours in support of her daughters' involvement in activities, especially swimming with the Wissahickon Community Aquatic Club and Fort Washington Swim and Tennis Club, from helping organize swim meets to timing races to making breakfast for early-morning practices. She was a member of Old York Road Country Club in Ambler, where she found many years of enjoyment with friends and family. Janet played tennis in women's tennis leagues such as Bux-Mont, where she was a team captain. She was also an avid golfer. Early in her marriage, Janet was a member of the Ambler Jaycees (then Jayceettes), involved in projects to decorate Ambler at the holidays and manage the Halloween haunted house at the former Ambler YMCA. In later years, she was an enthusiastic participant in pinochle and mahjong groups. Janet is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, C. Alan Freed. She was a loving wife and the devoted mother of Amy Stalzer and her husband Mark of Arlington, VA; Sara Weiss and her husband Craig of Lower Gwynedd, PA; and Alison Ruch and her husband Nathan of New Hope, PA. She was the loving grandmother of nine - Julia (17), Charlie (15), Samuel (14), Elizabeth (12), Hannah (10), Madelyn (10), Jack (10), Ryan (10) and James (9) - and sister of Barbara McEvoy of Englewood, FL, and Kathleen Fluehr of North Port, FL. She will be deeply missed.
