Wendell Parsons, age 90 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Thursday, October 01, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. Wendell was born September 6, 1919, the son of Pearl and Lenna (Stephens) Parsons in Franklin Township, Appanoose County. Wendell graduated from Exline High School. He married Virginia Shinogle on March 14, 1943 in Unionville, Missouri. She passed away April 23, 1978. Wendell later married Marguerite Davis on July 14, 1979 at the First Lutheran Church in Centerville. Wendell was a veteran of the United States Military. He served in the Army and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. During his time at Pearl Harbor, Wendell was a supplies sergeant. After his military career, Wendell returned to work with Iowa Southern Utilities. He spent forty two years with ISU as an internal auditor. Wendell was a board member for ISU, serving as the secretary for many years. In his free time, Wendell enjoyed numerous activities, including golf, hunting, and traveling. Wendell is survived by his wife Marguerite Parsons of Centerville, Iowa; three children, Joyce (Don) Crow of Centerville, Karen (Dean) McDanel of New London, Iowa, and Marcia (Byron) Oberheim of Loves Park, Illinois; a sister, Rosemary (Lloyd) Brown of Centerville; seven grandchildren, Chris (Amy) Crow of Flower Mound, Texas, Jason (Cindy) Crow of Quincy, Illinois, Tom McDanel of Hiawatha, Iowa, Tracey (Sean) Rogers of West Burlington, Iowa, Renea Proctor of Loves Park, Illinois, Rhonda (Scott) Christensen Roscoe, Illinois, and Julie (Dave) Smith of Loves Park, Illinois; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Virginia Parsons; and two sisters, Venetah Poffenberger and LeVoy Gragg. Funeral services with military rites will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, October 5, 2009 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Centerville with Pastor Kathy Franzenburg officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will be held 1-8 PM, Sunday at the Lange Funeral Home with family present from 6-8PM. A memorial has been established to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
