Gary R. Sumpter Sr., age 63, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa. Gary R. Sumpter Sr., age 63, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. Gary was born January 14, 1946, the son of Robert and Ruby (White) Sumpter in Centerville, Iowa. He worked at a bottling company in Ottumwa and later with Cargill as a welder and painter. Gary married Darlene Kay Dixon December 24, 1995 in Moulton, Iowa. In his free time, Gary enjoyed fishing and spending time with family, friends and his dog, Rocky. Gary was a member of the Dale Church in Centerville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milton and Randy Sumpter; sister-in-law, Nikki Sumpter; an infant sister, Julie Sumpter and a grandson, Tyson Davis. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Pastor Gerald Campbell officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Sunday evening at the Lange funeral home. According to Gary's wishes, he will be cremated after the service. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
