rk for Pella Corp, where he worked for 29 years and later retiring due to ill health in the Spring of 2012. Early on he enjoyed hunting and loved to spend time riding motorcycles. He enjoyed collecting guns and knives and was a voracious reader. He didn't know a stranger and thoroughly enjoyed spending his time visiting with people. Butch was a member of the Masonic Lodge 644, AMA, NRA, American Legion, and an active rider of the American Legion Riders. He looked forward to reunions with his Navy buddies and adored his three granddaughters.
His family includes his daughter, Cassie (Tracy) Barber of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his father, Bill Jones of Beecher City, Illinois; three granddaughters, Vivi, Sorelle, and Graylee Barber of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a sister, Becky (Tim) Laffoon of Tulare, California; two nieces, Mindy Campbell of Des Moines and Heidi Laffoon of Teutopolis, Illinois; two nephews, Justin Shipman of Oskaloosa and T.C. Laffoon of Visalia, California; a brother in-law, Rick (Nancy) Shipman of Oskaloosa; and many cousins and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, wife, and father and mother in law Jack and Vivian Shipman.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boestma officiating. Burial will be held at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Graveside military honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
