owa High School. In 1959 he was a Sales Representative for IDS (Ameriprise) in Webster City, Iowa. From 1960 to 1966, Floyd operated the Cities Service gas station at the corner of State and Phillips Street in Algona. In 1965, Floyd returned to teaching at the Sentral School of Fenton, Iowa where he taught Industrial Arts. He remained there until 1972 when he was hired by Iowa Lakes Community Schools to teach Power Mechanics to area High School students with facilities in Algona. He retired from that position in 1994. During his teaching years he was heavily involved in the Iowa State Education Association, serving as president of the Unit 10 unit in 1975-76 and made several trips to Washington DC, lobbying for the Department of Education. Having had several summers' experience detasseling corn for Pioneer he then spent many summers as an assistant area supervisor for Pioneer - supervising the detasseling operations in the Plum Creek area. While in High School Floyd first picked up a camera and throughout the years following that found many uses for his many cameras as he transitioned into the digital age. Floyd also became enamored with the potential of computers early in the age of personal computers. He used these skills as the treasurer of his Algona Morwens Kiwanis Club. Floyd had many years of perfect attendance in Kiwanis where he was a diamond level Hixson Fellow, a Bartlett Fellow and a member of the Zeller fellowship. He has served as President of the Club, Lt. Governor of Division 2, has been a long time treasurer of the club, and he served as the Aktion Club Administrator of the Nebraska-Iowa District of Kiwanis District Foundation. Floyd was most proud of his contact with Aktion Club members and their deep unselfish friendship. Floyd was also a member and treasurer of the Sullivan Building Foundation Board. Floyd and his family have attended the First United Methodist Church in Algona since moving to Algona in 1937 and he was a 50 year plus member. He served in many capacities in the church including High School Sunday School and Adult Sunday school teacher, Education Committee member, Secretary of the Foundation, and Memorial Committees, had been Administrative Board Chairman, Stewardship Chairman, Finance Committee Chairman, a member of the Records and History Committee. Floyd introduced computers to the church office and bookkeeping tasks. He performed these tasks for many years. After retirement Floyd and Carol enjoyed traveling, especially spending the month of December on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Floyd spent his life teaching others. Whether it was his day in teaching, through Kiwanis or helping family and friends remodel their houses. He touched so many lives through his helping hands. We hope the next time you're working on your house, taking pictures or working on your computer, you'll think of Floyd and how much joy it brought him to help others. Floyd died Monday, October 22, 2018 at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona. He was 83. Floyd is survived by his wife Carol, three sons, Steve (Pam) Hutzell of Marietta, GA, Mark (Hong) Hutzell of Lincoln, NE, James Hutzell of Columbus Ohio; grandchildren, Chris Hutzell of Kansas City, Anna Hutzell of Marietta, GA, Dr. Jacob Hutzell of Jacksonville, FL, Meg (Justin) Jorgensen of Grand Island, NE, Paige Hutzell of Omaha, Makayla Hutzell of Jonesville, SC, Amber Hutzell of Jonesville, SC, and Kaleb Hutzell of Jonesville, SC; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Nicole; brother-in-law, Dale Collins of Sulphur, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy R. and Mabel Hutzell and his brother, Fred Hutzell, and his father and mother-in-law, Perry and Helen Collins, sisters-in-law, Ruth Collins and Noema Hutzell.
