John Gumm

John James Gumm, age 88, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed from this life to his eternal rest on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on February 3, 1922, the son of Lawrence and Ruth (Murdy) Gumm in Centerville, Iowa. He married Charlotte Mangnall on March 29th, 1945 in Jacksonville, FL where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy as a pilot. John was a retired construction superintendent for Neumann Brothers Construction in Des Moines, IA and a life member of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 106. He is survived by a son, John S. (Elaine) Gumm of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Jane (Terry) Romp of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren, Danielle (Brian) Turnquist of Johnston,IA, Alex (Robin)Romp of West Des Moines, IA, Chris Romp of San Francisco, CA, Mike Romp of Chicago, IL and James Romp of West Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, IA with visitation an hour prior to the service.
