a bridge player with my favorite partner, Helene. Most of all I cherished my family. I also loved Beethoven and would whistle tunes like "I'll Be Seeing You" and "Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice", to my beautiful wife.
In 1968 we moved to Houston and Sulphur Springs, Texas, where I was selling tunnel kilns.
Missing Iowa we returned to Des Moines in 1974. There I sold roofing products for my own company, Mid-West Roofing Corporation. For my 85th birthday, my son, Gerry took me to a Chuck Berry Concert in Austin, Texas, and Chuck Berry was 85, just like me. Gerry and I also frequented casinos and won. I was pretty lucky!
I started to have some memory issues, so in 2009 we moved to Minneapolis where our daughter, Brigitta, lived. We remained there until 2016 when we returned to Algona, Iowa. We moved into Good Samaritan Home where I have lived with my wife of seventy years. My daughter, Lark, lived in Algona, and she would bring me cherry pie and chocolate all the time. What a treat!
My granddaughter, Jenny, came and took me to my eternal home on October 23, 2018. I left my earthly home and was with my loved ones that had gone before me. Those that I met as I went through those heavenly gates were: Mom and Dad, my brothers: Junior and wife, Barbara, Gerry and wife, Betty, my in-laws, Josef and Helena Fassbender, my brother-in-law, Chris Fassbender and his wife, Liselotte, and my sweet angel granddaughter, Jenny.
I know that those that I left behind are saddened, but I will see you again. I left: daughters: Brigitta Carnes of Rancho Mirage, CA. and Lark Ricklefs and partner, Steven Riskedahl of Algona, and son, Gerry Whittemore and wife, Karla Burleson, and my sister, Georgeanne Kuhl and husband, Condon of S. Harpswell, Maine. I have numerous nieces and nephews and six wonderful grandchildren and nine beautiful great-grandchildren.
"I'll Be Seeing You" all soon.
