Dr. Walter J. Walt Sturtz DVM age 61 of Maquoketa Iowa died unexpectedly on Friday morning April 152005.0 at his home in Maquoketa Iowa.



A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday April 202005.0 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa with Rev. Gerald Gjerde of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday April 192005.0 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Graveside Services and Burial will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday April 212005.0 from the Vegors Cemetery Stratford Iowa.



Walter J. Walt Sturtz was born on June 6 1943 in Mankato Minnesota. His parents were John W. and Caroline (Sharp) Sturtz. He was a 1961 graduate of Stratford Iowa High School and then attended and graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames Iowa in May of 1969. He married Linda L. Swanson on June 20 1964 in Stratford Iowa.



Dr. Sturtz moved to Maquoketa in 1969 and began practicing veterinary medicine at Maquoketa Veterinary Service with his partner Dr. Marek until 1982. He then purchased Dr. M.O. Pi...[more]

er's practice and operated the Maquoketa Veterinary Clinic from 1982 until present.



Dr. Sturtz was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa American Veterinary Medical Association Iowa State Veterinary Medical Association and the Maquoketa Area Chamber of Commerce.



Dr. Sturtz loved his family and grandchildren and his family lineage. He also loved doing yard work vintage cars and vintage tractors.



Dr. Sturtz is survived by: children- Darci(Mrs. Kary) Becker of Maquoketa IA & Tyler(Katie) Sturtz of Cedar Rapids IA; 5 grandchildren- Alex Ashley Abram Avery & Kendall; 1 brother- Pat(Mary) Sturtz of Pocahontas IA; 1 sister-Pam(Mrs. Clayton) Swanson of Clear Lake IA; & Linda Sturtz of Maquoketa IA. He was preceded in death by his parents & 1 niece.



A Dr. Walter J. Walt Sturtz Memorial Fund has been established.
