enjoyed reading his Bible, gardening, camping and in his younger years, horseback riding. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Titonka. Two years ago in December, their son Daniel died in a fire which also destroyed their home. After that, John and Elsie moved to the Titonka apartments.
John died Friday, November 9, 2018, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City at the age of 90, following a fall, where he fractured his hip.
John is survived by his wife, Elsie of Titonka, daughter Rebekah Smith of Joaquin, TX; grandchildren, Winnie Lightfoot of Joaquin, TX, Satartia Smith of Joaquin, TX, James Smith of Joaquin, TX and Rhiannon Planz of Nacogdoches, TX; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and sister Lillian (Howard) Rand of Minneapolis, MN.
He is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Planz, parents, brother, William Planz Jr.; sister, Dora Rode; son-in-law, Bob Smith, great-grandchild, Rebekah Lesley and infant brother, George Planz.
